This is known Temporomandibular Joint Disfunction (TMD) and can cause problems with the way you bite and close your mouth.
If you have any of the symptoms above, you may benefit from a TMJ “Deprogammer”
What is a deprogrammer?
A removable dental appliance, similar to an orthodontic retainer which is worn over the teeth to prevent them from biting together. This is designed to diagnose the cause of problems related to the bite and used to treat related problems.
How does the deprogrammer work?
The deprogrammer creates a little platform between the front teeth that prevents the back teeth from biting together relaxing the jaw and muscle tension to alleviate headaches and excess wear on the teeth. The appliance is worn for one week to one month or longer so that enough time elapses for old muscle memory to be erased.
People that have their bite successfully deprogrammed will experience an increased quality of life as a result of a more efficient bite position and may have less facial/joint pain as well as reduced incidences of worn, broken or loose teeth.
If you are presenting with any of the above mentioned symptoms, please make an appointment for a consultation with our orthodontist
